I have this habit of trying to see if I can outdo my own expectations. Reading, writing, playing music...whatever, I like pushing myself. So, when Nik told me she was doing the Boston Burlesque Marathon from midnight to 8:30 AM, I figured I'd go and stay awake for the whole thing, then go to band practice after at 11 in the morning. Mind you, it's 2+ hrs either way. I should have a nice relaxing time, and I'll sleep late the day of the show, I thought. Oh cruel and fickle burlesque Fates, why do you mock me?
I'll admit, I did have a lot of fun, and met some very cool people. The Slaughterhouse Sweethearts were very cool with their Cthulhu-inspired act, Nik and Amy/Lilly La Vamp were spot on as always , and I got to be a stage kitten for the second time this weekend. For 9. Hours. Straight. Somehow, one girl was scheduled as stage kitten for almost 100 acts, so Brandon and I stepped up and handled it with her for the whole night. I had a blast running amok on three floors of a beautiful old theater. Finding girls for their timeslots, bringing clothes around, clearing the stage, setting up props and taking them down.....at one point, I threatened to dress as Scooter from the Muppet Show if I ever got to do this again. All in all, it was a blast, even on Sunday morn when I saw that it was now daytime and I had been up since noon on Saturday. Apparently, the writer of the article I linked (which has some good shots of performers) has a crush on Nik. I can't blame her. Her talent is only one of the reasons I've been with her for almost 5 years now.
Slept on the ride home, showered, and went straight to band practice, which is coming together nicely. Our new bassist, Beth, and I have known each other for years, so it was good to catch up with her. I need to finish the lyrics for "A Body Like a Grave" and "Tomorrow Belongs To No-one." Now, Nik has just buzzed the fuzz off the sides of my 'hawk, and it's time to install the newest version of Ubuntu Satanic, and see if I can't get my pc's sound back.
