And none too happy to be back in the grind of living here. I was able to pick up a few good pieces of vinyl:
GBH - Oh no, It's GBH Again!
Agent Orange - When You Least Expect It.....
Thoughtcrime - It's All In Your Head
End of All - Art of Decadence
Avskum - Punkista
Crow - Bloody Tear
Bread & Water - Future Memories 7"
9 Shocks Terror - the 7" with "Mobile Terror Unit" and "Backing Out" on it
Parasitic Skies - Embers 7"
Of course, as soon as I listen to the Parasitic Skies songs (the only band I didn't already know), I realized it sounded much better in the store. I hate that, which is why I usually won't listen to things on store record players, since I occasionally wonder "What the fuck was I thinking?" But still, Crow!! And 9 Shocks Terror!! Both albums have my favorite tracks by the band. And as a bonus, the Crow LP has awesome translations like "Endless war, endless fight/I look over the all it's ashes/Give Up All Hope" or "A piece of dream is buried in the despair/and there's no one to pick it up/And the death is singing with wind" which just makes Death seem like a burrito fiend.
Also managed to pick up a copy of Yukio Mishima's "Sun and Steel,"and Graham Greene's "The Heart of the Matter," which I'm really enjoying right now. While the subject matter (the love affair of a young widow and a married, middle-aged man in West Africa during WWII) is nothing terribly creative, Greene's description of how human emotions war with each other is excellent.
Today is unpacking, getting the cats back from boarding, and trying to track down the elusive landlord/mechanic who I scheduled an oil change with 2 weeks ago. I just got the call from Perfect trigger to register for their pistol permit class, which means I'll be able to take Nikki to a range for target practice, since she's never fired a gun before and is joining the class as well. And one of our snakes has a cold. It's hilarious to see the 9-foot albino burmese python whose tank is right next to my desk come sit next to me and act cute through the glass, then sneeze and look shocked that she made that sound. Time for someone to get antibiotics, methinks.
