Painting

I'm in the process of putting a big Murderdolls logoon the back of a jacket I gave Nik after discovering it in the closet.  Black, red, lime green, and purple.  Nice color combo.
Learning to paint in oil colors with a local tattoo artist.  Been fun so far, getting the hang out how to blend colors with such slow-drying paint.  Now if only I didn't get sky blue all over my Rudimentary Peni shirt, though it is ironic the painting I'm doing is entitled "When You Are A Martian Church."
  Bleh.....feeling laconic.  Less later.

Recent comical books

Zack Whedon just finished up the three issue run of Terminator: 1984.  I'm going to admit, I was underwhelmed.
Zack Whedon is not the most well-known of his family, but I am firmly of the mindset that "Breaking Bad" is a wonderful tv show, which  gives him a chance to exercise a very quirky kind of humour.  So, when I saw that the new Terminator series from Dynamite press was going to have him as writer, I thought this might be a hell of a ride.  I've been a big fan of the whole Terminator franchise since the 80s, when I was "too young to be watching things like that."  Haha, dad, look how well I turned out!!!!  Er.....maybe not.......
Anywhoo, T:1984 takes off from the end of the first film, and mixes in one version of the future where Kyle Reese is sent back, with the days and months after Sarah presses the first T-800 to death.  We follow another soldier in Jon Connor's future army who is sent back and shadows events in the end of the first film, then affects events after the first film ends.  I'm not partial to the plot (which changes a lot of what we understand to have happened between the first and second movies in ways that wouldn't mesh at all with the script of the second), and it's a very standard idea which I expected to be done years ago.  I was happy to see they didn't pull punches with the violence, but then again, it wasn't anything spectacular either.
Highland Laddies, meanwhile, is a pretty good side story from the Boys, following Hughie as he takes time away from NYC to come to grasp with what's going on in his life.  It's meant to run concurrently to the issues of the Boys now coming out, which allows Garth Ennis to flesh out Hughie a bit without breaking the pace of his main story.  I can't say I'm surprised, as I expected Hughie to be the one to get as spin-off if anyone did, and the story's not bad.  It keeps Ennis' standard mix of violence and messed-up humour, but touches more on how Wee H. is affected by the parts of his job which he's been trying to turn a blind eye to.
I just got my head shoved into my girlfriend's sweatshirt, so I guess a nipple in the eye socket is a none-too-subtle clue to go watch a movie with her.   More of this later...

Is Nike smoking crack?

I just heard an ad for a "sports drink for your feet."  What in the flying blue monkey-fuck would my FEET do with an energy drink?  Show my socks who's boss in these here shoes?

Boston Burlesque Marathon

I have this habit of trying to see if I can outdo my own expectations.  Reading, writing, playing music...whatever, I like pushing myself.  So, when Nik told me she was doing the Boston Burlesque Marathon from midnight to 8:30 AM, I figured I'd go and stay awake for the whole thing, then go to band practice after at 11 in the morning.  Mind you, it's 2+ hrs either way.  I should have a nice relaxing time, and I'll sleep late the day of the show, I thought.  Oh cruel and fickle burlesque Fates, why do you mock me?
I'll admit, I did have a lot of fun, and met some very cool people.  The Slaughterhouse Sweethearts were very cool with their Cthulhu-inspired act, Nik and Amy/Lilly La Vamp were spot on as always , and I got to be a stage kitten for the second time this weekend.  For 9.  Hours.  Straight.  Somehow, one girl was scheduled as stage kitten for almost 100 acts, so Brandon and I stepped up and handled it with her for the whole night.  I had a blast running amok on three floors of a beautiful old theater.  Finding girls for their timeslots, bringing clothes around, clearing the stage, setting up props and taking them down.....at one point, I threatened to dress as Scooter from the Muppet Show if I ever got to do this again.  All in all, it was a blast, even on Sunday morn when I saw that it was now daytime and I had been up since noon on Saturday. Apparently, the writer of the article I linked (which has some good shots of performers) has a crush on Nik.  I can't blame her.  Her talent is only one of the reasons I've been with her for almost 5 years now.
Slept on the ride home, showered, and went straight to band practice, which is coming together nicely.  Our new bassist, Beth, and I have known each other for years, so it was good to catch up with her.  I need to finish the lyrics for "A Body Like a Grave" and "Tomorrow Belongs To No-one."  Now, Nik has just buzzed the fuzz off the sides of my 'hawk, and it's time to install the newest version of Ubuntu Satanic, and see if I can't get my pc's sound back.

When you are a martian church

  1. Older of the burmese pythons (the albino) picked up mouthrot somehow.  We're giving her lots of injections, and hopefully she'll pull through. Sebastianne, my red-tail, has developed weird lumps where his face is healing back.  Three years after we forced his last owner to give him up, and he's still got a huge scar on his nose.  At least he's shedding without issue this time.
  2. Finished Graham Greene's "The Heart of the Matter" and started reading "Men who stare at goats."  Wow...the author doesn't pull any punches. This book is nothing like the movie.  Jon Ronson rips into the parapsychic field of study with a certain malevolence only reporters can summon.
  3. Finally saw "Antichrist."  I'm surprised people thought it was so hard to watch, but I realize I'm incredibly desensitized to fucked up situations.  Good film, all around (though very surreal).  Will have to review it for Horrorsnark.
  4. Back on track with music.  Found a bassist, guitarist and drummer have learned 2 songs I wrote for the last band.  It looks like this might just go smoothly for me.
  5. Found a new gin, called "Bols."  I just like saying I have a big glass of Bols, and it tastes bitter.

Back from NOLA

And none too happy to be back in the grind of living here.  I was able to pick up a few good pieces of vinyl:
GBH - Oh no, It's GBH Again!
Agent Orange - When You Least Expect It.....
Thoughtcrime - It's All In Your Head
End of All - Art of Decadence
Avskum - Punkista
Crow - Bloody Tear
Bread & Water - Future Memories 7"
9 Shocks Terror - the 7" with "Mobile Terror Unit" and "Backing Out" on it
Parasitic Skies - Embers 7"

Of course, as soon as I listen to the Parasitic Skies songs (the only band I didn't already know), I realized it sounded much better in the store.  I hate that, which is why I usually won't listen to things on store record players, since I occasionally wonder "What the fuck was I thinking?"  But still, Crow!!  And 9 Shocks Terror!!  Both albums have my favorite tracks by the band.  And as a bonus, the Crow LP has awesome translations like "Endless war, endless fight/I look over the all it's ashes/Give Up All Hope" or "A piece of dream is buried in the despair/and there's no one to pick it up/And the death is singing with wind"  which just makes Death seem like a burrito fiend.
Also managed to pick up a copy of Yukio Mishima's "Sun and Steel,"and Graham Greene's "The Heart of the Matter," which I'm really enjoying right now.  While the subject matter (the love affair of a young widow and a married, middle-aged man in West Africa during WWII) is nothing terribly creative, Greene's description of how human emotions war with each other is excellent.
Today is unpacking, getting the cats back from boarding, and trying to track down the elusive landlord/mechanic who I scheduled an oil change with 2 weeks ago.  I just got the call from Perfect trigger to register for their pistol permit class, which means I'll be able to take Nikki to a range for target practice, since she's never fired a gun before and is joining the class as well.  And one of our snakes has a cold.  It's hilarious to see the 9-foot albino burmese python whose tank is right next to my desk come sit next to me and act cute through the glass, then sneeze and look shocked that she made that sound.  Time for someone to get antibiotics, methinks.

Blog blog blog, whoopdie-fucking-doo

I'm not much for blogging, and I when I do, it's usually on livejournal still, but I'm writing for horrorsnark's blog on horror films, so I thought I should have something here when I friend people and they go "Who the fuck is this?"  Ain't I a nice guy?
I'm some random splatterpunk who works as a computer programmer.  Which is funny, since I can't be arsed to make my various online profiles look halfway decent.  I live with my girlfriend, who is a bellydancer when she's not working at an animal hospital, and I spend lots of time blaring music, writing music, working on my old cars, watching movies, studying, reading, and playing with our cats and snakes.  Anything else, ya might just wanna check h8disease.livejournal.com, myspace.com/chudscraps, or look me up on Facebook under Mange Vorhees.  When I have time, I'll probably start posting the random bits of humour I write in my off-time here.
